Gwyn McCormack is the director of Positive Eye, which was established 14 years ago. At Positive Eye Gwyn combines her creativity and knowledge to write and create programmes, courses and resources to support professionals and families working or supporting children with complex learning needs/vision impairment. Her business is international – her programmes are used and her work is respected by many countries.
Gwyn supports children who have vision impairments in the most enthusiastic, glittery way imaginable! She uses a doll, Marvin, to help with her story telling sessions and to entice all children into the narrative. And in this session, Gwnn tells us about Marvin’s next new adventure
Gwyn explains her Storytime Show, an online, multi-sensory experience for families and children with complex learning needs. The show is hosted by Marvin and features characters made from glitter paper. We discuss how the show could be used in Early Years settings to engage children and aid concentration skills.
Gwyn explains how the show is designed to strengthen literacy outcomes for children of all ages and abilities and is used by families to support their children’s social communication, visual skills, and visual attention.
They have received lots of lovely anecdotes from families about the show, including stories of children with complex needs lifting their heads to watch and being calmed by the show.
