Michelle Pratt has over 30 years’ experience in the commercial and not-for-profit education sector. She created and developed the New Shoots Children’s Centre’s, Curiate NZ, New Shoots Creative Play Australia and New Shoots Publishing and has also lectured at Auckland University, New Zealand.
But today we are discussing Michelle’s new initiative – Enspirement.
Inspiring + Environment = Enspirement helps you to transform early childhood education experiences through meaningful environmental design.
Bound by the belief that inspiring environments unlock and nurture children’s knowledge and potential, Enspirement sets out to enable educators to create more purposeful early childhood education spaces and experiences and to make a positive impact in the lives of educators and children through environmental design.
In this interview, we discuss how environmental design can have a huge impact on children’s experiences and how to make sure that the impact is positive, supportive and sustainable.
I also ask Michelle about an intriguing section on the website called The Potential Place, which explores the emotional response to place and how emotion, therefore, must be the cornerstone of design for Early Childhood environments.
We end with some practical top strategies and suggestions for practitioners and educators to help them to create a truly inspirational environment for their children.
