Kierna Corr has been a nursery teacher for over 20 years and is passionate about getting young children outdoors every day and allowing them to explore in a natural environment.
Since 2008, her class have gone on regular trips to local woodland, cooked on campfires, whittled & been encouraged to take part in risky play.
In this interview, Kierna takes us on her journey – from being someone who would be most likely found inside with a good book to being outdoors every day. She explains how she became interested in learning – and embracing – the outdoors through travel and education. We discuss how to encourage and impassion staff and how to enthuse parents to an outdoor in ‘all weathers’ ethos.
Kierna also focuses on some of the positives that have come from the current pandemic, including changing attitudes towards an outdoors approach.
We finish the discussion with some thoughts on social media and its power to connect and inspire people around the world.
