Helen has been teaching Early Childhood Education and Care in further and higher education since 2002 and began er academic career in FE as a tutor, then as Head of School for Early Childhood Studies. She is now an Associate lecturer at the Open University and an Honorary Research Fellow and the University of Wolverhampton.
Helen received her Doctorate in 2017, from the University of Sheffield and is an executive member of the Early Childhood Studies Degrees Network (ECSDN) with responsibility for the Research and Knowledge Exchange portfolio. Her research interests are the professionalisation of the Early Childhood Workforce and the Role of Men in Childcare.
In this interview, Helen explains what professionalism is, and that is advocating for the children, no matter your role or years of experience. She goes on to discuss the importance of pedagogy and a ‘shared professional language’
