This is a very practical course, with lots of things you can use immediately, some old favourites (which you may have forgotten about!), some new ideas and some ideas you may not have thought to use with children before.

In part 1, Emotion Language you will learn:

  • How to manage ‘tides of emotions’ in ourselves and the children
  • How to embed emotion language in everyday practice
  • What you can do as a staff team to improve emotional language in your setting

This session is 22 minutes long with a 15 minute (+) activity to do at the end.

In part 2, Engaging in Nature you will learn:

  • The ways that Nature can help self-regulation in all children
  • Ideas for engaging with Nature, whatever type of setting you are in
  • The importance of engaging with nature yourself

This session is 20 minutes long with a 10-minute activity to do at the end.

In part 3, Creativity, you will learn:

  • How to think more widely about what we mean by creativity for children
  • How our own creativity can be shared with the children
  • The links between creativity and wellbeing

This session is 15 minutes long with a 10 minute activity to do at the end.

In part 4, Sensory Activities, you will learn:

  • A range of sensory activities – active, calming and mindful
  • How to do ‘bubble breathing’
  • Ideas to embed to support children’s wellbeing

This session is 21 minutes long with a range of activities to do at the end. It would be really good if you could have a pot of bubbles available for this final session!

The whole course is just over 70 minutes long, with activities for you to try throughout.

You’ll get a certificate on completion for 2 hours of training, which includes the activities as suggested in the training course.

About Your Course Instructor:

Sonia has worked with early years children for over 30 years, currently as a freelance nurture consultant with a small organisation called Brighter Futures in Bath. In this role she works with four year olds with social, emotional and mental health needs, supporting the children and their staff.

During her career, she has worked for a national children’s charity specialising in participation work, working with Children and Young people aged from 0 -19 years.

Sonia is also a trainer with 20 year’s experience, delivering high quality, bespoke training across the country with a variety of sectors, including early years, social services, education, health, the voluntary sector and the church and specialising in children’s wellbeing, staff wellbeing and listening to children. Her training is influenced by her wide experience of excellent practice observed in Reggio Emillia, Sweden and Denmark.

Sonia is the author of 8 books and regularly writes for education magazines. Most of her writing career has focused on supporting wellbeing for staff and children.
