Donna Gaywood is a teacher who brings 30 years’ experience of working with children, young people, and adults to enable them to be resilient lifelong learners. She has worked across a wide range of settings: schools, PVIs, charities, local authorities and in private practice.
Over the years Donna has developed a specialism for working with children and their parents who have encountered significant challenge in their lives and continue to work in practice to support young children who are struggling with their social, emotional, and mental health, alongside their parents and early educators.
She was a member of the Inclusion and Equalities working group for the Birth to 5 Matters document and has recently been appointed as the Birth to 5 Matters project co-ordinator.
Donna has a B(Ed) Hons (2:1), an MA (Early Years) (with distinction), an NPQICL and is currently completing my PhD which is concerned with the lived experiences of very young refugee children. She is a member of the National Education Union (NEU) and is part of the NEU Early Years Reference group.
In this special episode of Early Years TV, Donna discusses the newly developed Birth to 5 Matters framework, which compliments the EYFS, as well as other curricula. During the interview Donna explains the need for a new framework and how Birth to 5 has been developed and grown. She also highlights the benefits of having a framework that has been constructed by such influential and knowledgeable Early Years experts.
