Alistair is the father of 3 boys, an award-winning Early Years author with 23 books published and is currently Studying for his Doctorate in Early Years Education Jennie is the mother of 3 girls, founded the multi–award winning Nursery group Kids Allowed, setup a multi award winning training academy and was awarded an MBE for services to Apprenticeships in 2016. Together, they have founded the website and App for parents – My First Five Years. In this interview we discuss how to support families and their children with children’s social and emotional development. Alistair and Jennie explain the role that play can take in helping with this, especially with transitions, such as when children are returning to nursery or school, or are attending an Early Years setting for the first time. We go on to discuss the 6 ‘streams’ of child development that have been used on the My First Five Years App, with a special mention on the ‘Sensory’ stream and why this was especially important. The interview concludes with some great ideas for ways of using the App and the website to strengthen parent partnership in Early Years settings.
